Jaipur: A multi-departmental panel formed by Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has will find ways to either completely remove eight major traffic circles in the city or reduce their number for a smoother flow of traffic.
Following a requisition from the city traffic, JDA formed this panel that will analyse scenarios such diminishing the size of these circles to facilitate better traffic flow and making suitable changes to ensure it, said Ved Prakash Verma, JDA's additional chief engineer.
"The committee comprises JDA engineers, officials from the traffic department and a private agency. Once we complete the analysis, we can be certain about what is the best solution," added Verma.
During JDA's Traffic Control Board meeting in March, the traffic department forwarded the proposal to reduce the size of eight prominent circles in the city to streamline traffic flow at those junctions. They include Sanjay Circle at Chandpole, Apex Circle at Malviya Nagar, Jawahar (Rotary) Circle on Agra Road, and Ambedkar (Polo) Circle near the secretariat.
JDA engineers assert that the size of Jawahar Circle, which is exceptionally large and witnesses ever rising traffic volume, requires reduction. "Now that govt has relocated the bus stand on Narayan Singh Circle to Delhi Road and Agra Road at Transport Nagar, the traffic volume at this junction has risen substantially. Most vehicles ferrying passengers to and from these bus stands are traversing this crossing," said a JDA engineer.
Senior citizens of Jaipur said several circles in the city have been reduced drastically or have become nearly imperceptible due to the administration's efforts to facilitate swift traffic movement. "The administration must maintain a balance between preserving greenery and infrastructure while ensuring smooth traffic movement. Jawahar (Rotary) Circle particularly is a splendid green landscape," said Amit Sachdeva, a longtime Jaipur resident.
